Casino verification process: the KYC documents, the deadlines and how to pass first time

Every casino checks who you are before it pays you. Here is the exact document list from casinos' own terms, how long checks take, the deadline you must meet, and the mistakes that cause a fail.

Key facts

  • Offshore casinos usually verify you after your first withdrawal request, so a slow check holds up your first payout.
  • Wild Tokyo asks for photo ID, the card you paid with (middle six digits and CVV hidden), a bank or e-wallet screenshot and a utility bill no older than three months.
  • Its checks take up to 72 hours from receiving documents, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00 GMT+3, and you have 30 calendar days to send them or lose the winnings.
  • Licensed Australian bookmakers must verify you within three days of opening an account, before you can bet.
  • Most fails come from blurry or cropped photos, details that do not match the account, or paying with someone else's card.

What the casino verification process is

Verification, often called KYC ("know your customer"), is the casino checking that you are who you say you are, that you are old enough, where you live and that the payment method is yours. Offshore casinos usually run it at the point of your first withdrawal. Wild Tokyo's terms say you must complete verification after placing a withdrawal request, or whenever its Risk Department asks.

That timing is the problem. By the time the casino checks you, it already holds your money and your winnings, and the clock on your payout does not start until it is satisfied.

Casino KYC requirements: the document list

This is the list in Wild Tokyo's withdrawal policy. Mino Casino's withdrawal policy sets out the same kinds of documents.

DocumentWhat the terms ask forHow to get it right
Photo IDColour copy of your passport or driver's licence, not expiredAll four corners in frame, no glare on the photo
Payment cardColour copy of both sides of the card you deposited with, middle 6 digits and CVV hiddenOn a 16-digit card, cover digits 7 to 12 and the 3-digit code on the back
Bank accountScreenshot showing account number, bank identifier code and your full addressTake it from your banking app's account details screen
E-walletScreenshot showing the wallet number and your personal details pageOnly needed if you deposited from an e-wallet
SelfieSelfie holding your passport or licence, if requestedFace and document both readable, no filters
Proof of addressUtility bill no older than 3 months, showing your name and addressMust match the address on your casino account

The terms also say the casino may ask for more information about any deposit at any time, and that its Risk Department can request a video call.

How long verification takes

Wild Tokyo gives two figures: verification "typically requires up to 3 business days" once you have sent everything, and can take "up to 72 hours" from receipt. Its KYC team works Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00 GMT+3, which is late afternoon to the early hours in eastern Australia.

The deadline runs the other way too. You have 30 calendar days from the withdrawal request, or from the casino's request for documents, to provide them. Miss it and the terms say your winnings are confiscated and the account closed for good.

Step by step: verify before you need to

  1. Use your own details from the start. Wild Tokyo's terms require accurate personal data and allow only one account per person. A wrong date of birth or an old address will fail the check later.
  2. Pay only with your own card or account. The terms ban third-party payments. A partner's card is the fastest way to a failed check.
  3. Photograph each document in colour, flat and in good light. Fill the frame but keep all edges visible.
  4. Mask the card properly. Hide the middle six digits and the CVV, nothing else.
  5. Pick a recent bill. Utility bills must be under three months old and match your account address exactly.
  6. Upload through the casino's site. Wild Tokyo's terms also accept documents at [email protected]. Send nothing through social media or to an address that is not in the terms.
  7. Ask support to confirm the account is fully verified, and keep the confirmation email or chat transcript.

Pundit tip: ask support on day one whether you can verify before your first withdrawal. If you can, do it then. A verified account turns a win into a withdrawal, not a week of emails.

Licensed bookmakers do it the other way round

Licensed Australian bookmakers have to check you early. Under the National Consumer Protection Framework the maximum verification period was cut from 14 days to 3 days, and Tasmania's regulator puts it as providers must verify a customer's identity within 72 hours of registration. So with a licensed bookmaker, the paperwork happens before you bet, not after you win. Our betting sites Australia guide covers the other protections that come with a licence.

Why verification fails

  • Blurry, cropped or glary photos. MiFinity, an eWallet with the same kind of checks, lists image quality and the wrong document type among the common reasons it rejects documents.
  • Details that do not match. Name, address or date of birth on the account differs from the documents.
  • Someone else's payment method. Third-party cards and accounts are banned in the terms.
  • More than one account. Duplicate accounts can be closed, with bonuses and winnings cancelled.
  • A VPN. Wild Tokyo can void winnings if it believes you disguised your IP address.
  • A missed video call. If you do not attend an agreed video verification, the terms allow the casino to cancel winnings and close the account.

Before you send ID offshore

You are handing passport or licence copies to a company with no Australian licence. Online casinos cannot be licensed in Australia, so there is no local regulator watching how they store your documents. Frequently asked questions

What documents do online casinos need for verification?

Typically photo ID, proof of address and proof that you own the payment method. Wild Tokyo's list is a colour passport or driver's licence, both sides of the card you deposited with, a bank or e-wallet screenshot, a utility bill no older than three months and, if asked, a selfie holding your ID.

How long does casino verification take?

Wild Tokyo's terms say up to 72 hours from receiving the documents it needs, during its Monday to Friday office hours, and typically up to three business days. Extra checks can make it longer.

Can I withdraw without verifying my account?

Not usually. Wild Tokyo says a first withdrawal will not be paid until it has a copy of your ID, and it will not pay more than EUR 2,000 in 24 hours or EUR 2,300 in total until identity, age and address are verified.

What happens if I do not complete verification?

You can lose your winnings. Wild Tokyo gives you 30 calendar days from the withdrawal request or its document request. After that, its terms say winnings are confiscated and the account is permanently closed.

Why do casinos ask for a selfie or a video call?

To match the person to the document. Wild Tokyo may ask for a selfie holding your ID and can request video verification. Missing an agreed video call can lead to cancelled winnings and a closed account under its terms.

Is KYC different at licensed Australian bookmakers?

Yes. Under the National Consumer Protection Framework, licensed online wagering providers must verify your identity within three days of registration, before you can place a bet. Offshore casinos often check only when you try to withdraw.
