More Chilli pokies: two games, one name
More Chilli is an Aristocrat venue pokie, and in 2026 there are two very different things you might mean by it. One is Aristocrat's own game, which its Australian and New Zealand pages now bill as "The Hall of Fame game" and have relaunched with Hold & Spin. The other is Extra Chilli More Chilli, an online game from a different company, Big Time Gaming. This guide covers both, starting with the one you will find in a pub or club.
The new Aristocrat More Chilli
Aristocrat Gaming's ANZ page describes the relaunch in one line: "One of the most recognized brands is back with new characters and new gameplay featuring Hold & Spin plus Repeat Win." It comes as three games:
| Game | Part of |
|---|---|
| Habanero Heater | The new More Chilli |
| Extra Spicy | The new More Chilli |
| Mas Pollo | The new More Chilli |
Hold & Spin is the respin feature Aristocrat made famous with Lightning Link pokies, where it awards credits and jackpots. Repeat Win is an Aristocrat add-on to it; the exact rule is in the machine's paytable. The page does not publish a return to player or bet range for the new edition.
The More Chilli in the approval records
The older More Chilli is well documented. A 2014 approval by the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission, published on the territory's legislation register, lists updated software for More Chilli (specification 1.F0077):
| Item | Approved value |
|---|---|
| Maker | Aristocrat Technologies Australia Pty Ltd |
| Machine type | Conventional, ante bet |
| Base credit value | 1c |
| Maximum bet | $6.00 |
It then lists three return to player settings, each as a range:
| Setting | Minimum RTP | Maximum RTP | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| 99 | 86.96% | 91.99% | Linked jackpot only |
| 1 | 87.89% | 92.97% | None listed |
| 2 | 85.96% | 90.95% | Linked jackpot only |
Settings 99 and 2 dip below the ACT's 87% minimum at their low end, which is why the approval allows them only "on a linked jackpot arrangement where the combined gaming machine percentage return to player and linked jackpot contribution is at least 87%". The same approval lists Mystery Link versions of Aristocrat's Gen7 Viridian Widescreen cabinet for it.
When most of the jackpot sits on the link
A second 2014 approval shows how far that can go. A Cash Express / Money Train machine, approved in January 2014 for 1c and 2c play on a four-level linked jackpot, paired More Chilli with 5 Dragons. More Chilli's own setting there returned 77.14% to 82.16% from the machine.
In our calculation, to reach the ACT's 87% total, the link had to supply between 4.84 and 9.86 percentage points of that return:
| More Chilli setting | Machine's own return | Share left for the linked jackpot |
|---|---|---|
| Standard More Chilli, setting 1 (low end) | 87.89% | none needed |
| Standard More Chilli, setting 2 (low end) | 85.96% | at least 1.04 points |
| Cash Express machine (high end) | 82.16% | at least 4.84 points |
| Cash Express machine (low end) | 77.14% | at least 9.86 points |
On the Cash Express machine that means, on average, roughly 77 to 82 cents in every dollar came back from the reels, with the rest paid as linked jackpots to whichever players happened to hit them. Our 5 Dragons pokies guide covers the other game on that machine. The Cash Express name lives on: an August 2024 ACT approval lists "Cash Express Luxury Line: More Chilli", required to run with Aristocrat's approved Cash Express Luxury Line linked jackpot settings.
Extra Chilli More Chilli is a different game
Search for More Chilli online and you will mostly find Extra Chilli More Chilli. It is not Aristocrat's game. Big Time Gaming, the Sydney studio behind the Megaways mechanic, lists it on its own site with these details:
| Item | Big Time Gaming's figure |
|---|---|
| RTP | 96.39% to 96.45% |
| Ways to win | 117,649 |
| Bonus Buy | 10 free spins for 100x your stake |
| Power Play | Costs 5 times your stake |
Two of those lines matter for your money. The Bonus Buy price is 100 spins' worth in one go: $100 at a $1 stake, $200 at $2. And Power Play multiplies your turnover by five, so at the same return it multiplies your average loss per spin by five too: at 96.39%, about 3.6c per $1 spin becomes about 18c per $5 Power Play spin, in our calculation. Our bonus buy pokies guide explains why buying features speeds up losses, and our Big Time Gaming pokies guide covers the studio.
Higher RTP online is not a reason to play offshore
On paper the online game returns more. In our calculation, $500 of play costs on average:
| Game and setting | RTP | Average cost per $500 |
|---|---|---|
| Aristocrat More Chilli, setting 2 (low end) | 85.96% | $70.20 |
| Aristocrat More Chilli, setting 1 (high end) | 92.97% | $35.15 |
| Extra Chilli More Chilli (low end) | 96.39% | $18.05 |
But the online version cannot legally be offered to people in Australia. Under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, online pokies are prohibited services here, and ACMA blocks the offshore sites that offer them. Playing is not an offence for you, but no Australian regulator checks those sites' games or their payouts, and ACMA warns players risk losing their money. A published RTP means nothing if the site that runs the game will not pay. More on that in are online pokies legal in Australia.
Pundit tip: if the screen says "Extra Chilli" and "Big Time Gaming", you are not on Aristocrat's More Chilli, whatever the site's menu calls it.
Free More Chilli
The legal no-money way to play Aristocrat's More Chilli is Heart of Vegas from Product Madness, Aristocrat's social casino studio. Its Australian App Store listing says "Spice things up with MORE CHILLI slots", carries an R 18+ rating, and states the app "does not offer gambling or an opportunity to win real money or prizes". Coin packages cost real money and are never refundable as winnings. If spending on pokies, real or virtual, is starting to bite, see our gambling help page.
